5 Tips to Achieve Clear Skin

5-Tips-To-Achieve-Clear-Skin

Acne.

Almost everyone struggles with acne sometime in their life whether it is in their teens years or in their adult years (and if you don’t, well then…you are the luckiest person in the world and I want to know your secret). As I have explained in my Current Skincare Routine post, I have dealt with acne since I was about 15 and I am now 21.

Acne is something that can harm a persons self-confidence mentally and physically. I would become depressed and any bit of self-confidence I had diminished. There were days, during my high school experience, when I would be so depressed and embarrassed about my acne that I would pretend to be sick so that I could stay home from school and other events. I had the thought in my head that people would judge me with craters (as I called them) on my face.

After the long journey of struggling with acne, I have found multiple ways to keep my acne at bay and my skin clear (at least most of the time…except for those times of the month of course… You know what I’m talking about ladies!) Now, I am not a dermatologist or specialist in skincare so I cannot guarantee these tips will work for you. These are just things that work for me and my skin, but… If you struggled with acne like I did… You will probably try anything to help clear up your skin so I hope these tips help you like they did for me!

1. Remove All Makeup Before Bed Every Night!

I know we all get lazy and tend to skip taking our makeup off each night…Guilty as charged…but we all need to get up off our lazy butt and remember to remove our makeup at night. By not removing all traces of makeup at night, it sits on our skin and clogs our pores causing sebum to become trapped and cause an infection… HENCE the result of acne. Trust me, we all dread coming home and taking out makeup off every night but, if you are guilty of doing this, your skin will thank you later if you just take those couple minute to remove your makeup each night. Right now I think I am using the Mary Kay oil-free makeup remover (which I forgot to take a picture of… sorry), but I love using the Neutrogena Makeup Remover Cleansing Towelettes* because they really remove all my makeup but are not harsh on my skin!

2. Cleanse Twice a Day

This tip goes hand-in-hand with #1 as you should always cleanse your face once in the morning and once at night, even if you did not wear makeup that day and especially if you wore makeup that day. Pores naturally secrete oils called sebum that can build-up and clog pores, which is why it is always important to remember to cleanse your face twice a day in order to break down all the build-up caused by dirt, sweat, and sebum. Do not cleanse more than twice though because it can dry out your face and cause your pores to secrete more oils causing the pores to become clogged easier. I use two different cleansers — one in the morning and a different one in the evening. In the morning I cleanse with the Rodan & Fields Unblemish Acne Treatment Sulfur Wash (that I will be doing a review on in a couple weeks) and in the evening I cleanse with my– holy grail of acne products– Tea Tree Skin Clearing Foaming Cleanser from The Body Shop Tea Tree skincare line that I raved about in my Current Skincare RoutineThis stuff really controls my oils, helps diminish acne, and even smells good (at least to me).

3. Use a Cleansing Brush

Using a cleansing brush is another tip I like to use because it helps make sure your pores get a deep clean, instead of using your hands that only cleanses the top layer of your skin. By using a cleansing brush, you get into the deeper into your skin by breaking up all the build-up in your pores. Not everyone likes to use a cleansing brush everyday though because it can be very exfoliating so doing it a couple times a week is preferred than not at all. I just like to do it everyday because I get a lot of build-up from having oily skin. Now, we all know they are some pricey cleansing brushes out there, but they do not have to be to get the job done. I use one from Mary Kay but I believe it is a little more expensive…not like the Clarisonic brushes, but still expensive. There are plenty of cleansing brushes out there that will get the job done but are on the cheaper side. I used to use the Olay ProX Advanced Cleansing System Facial Brush* that you can purchase on Amazon that works and looks like the one from Mary Kay but is cheaper.

4. Always Moisturize After Cleansing

Moisturizing is one of the most important steps to maintain clear skin. After you cleanse your face, you need to put the moisture back into your skin so that your skin does not become dry and cause your pores to produce more oils leading to acne. My absolute favorite moisturizer is the Olay Complete All Day Moisturizer* as I have been using it for years and years. It is oil free, which is what you should look for in a moisturizer if you are acne prone or have oily skin, and it does not feel greasy when you apply it. I have used other moisturizers but always come back to this one.

5. Use a Mask Once A Week

This is just preference… because some people do not like to use masks… but I use a mask once a week to get a deep clean. Masks can be very deep cleaning so it is recommended not to do them every night if you cleanse regularly, like you should, but if you do use masks more than once a week and it works for you then all power to you… keep doing it girl! I like to use the Queen Helene Mint Julep Masque* because it is for oily and acne prone skin. It is so refreshing too because the mint gives a cooling feeling to your skin when you first put it on and then makes your skin feel as soft as a babies butt after you rinse it off. I also have been using the Shills Deep Cleansing Black Mask Purifying Peel-off Mask that makes your skin so soft… like a baby’s bum! It is really cleansing and removes all your dead skin cells. I actually did a review on this product and you can check it out here!

All these tips and tricks have helped me over the years really clear up my acne and control my breakouts so I hope they do the same for all you lovely people too!

My Current Skincare Routine + The Body Shop Tea Tree Review

Skincare is something that is very important to me and always has been, so I thought I would share my current skincare routine with you.

Background: I have combination/oily skin so I have dry areas but I am also very oil, especially on my T-Zone. I have struggled with acne since I was 15 in my Freshman year of high school. My worst acne came in my Junior year as it was not cystic but it was pretty close and I would get scars from my acne. Now I am 21 and I still currently struggle with acne but it is nowhere near what it was like in high school. I get a couple pimples here and there (which are still really annoying – am I right?) but I have found ways of getting rid of them faster.

20170107_145159.jpg

I religiously used the Murad Acne Skincare line for about the past 2 years but I have heard so many great reviews about The Body Shop Tea Tree line from so many people, including my best friend who uses some products from the line, so I decided I would see what all the rave is about. I bought 3 products from the Tea Tree line: The Tea Tree Skin Clearing Foaming Cleanser, Tea Tree Skin Clearing Mattifying Facial Toner, and just the plain Tea Tree Oil. I use these Body Shop products along with the Olay Complete All Day Moisturizer with SPF 15 for Sensitive Skin.

Now that you know what products I use in my skincare, lets jump into the steps of my routine.

  1. First, I make sure my hair is put up and out of my face.
  2. Use warm water to get my cleansing brush and face wet because the warm water helps open up my pores so that the product is able to penetrate deeper into my skin for a better cleaning.
  3. Apply one pump of the The Tea Tree Skin Clearing Foaming Cleanser to my cleansing brush.
  4. Using the cleansing brush, I scrub my face in a circular motion (I tend to scrub for a decent amount of time to ensure I am getting my face as clean as possible and giving the cleanser time to work into my pores).
  5. Once I am done scrubbing my face, I rinse my cleansing brush off in the warm water as well as rinse my face clean of the cleanser and then pat my face dry with a washcloth.
  6. Apply the Tea Tree Skin Clearing Mattifying Facial Toner with a cotton ball or cotton pad.
  7. Using a Q-Tip, I then apply the Tea Tree Oil to any active pimple or any problem area I have.
  8. Lastly I apply a generous amount of the Olay Complete All Day Moisturizer all over my face.

I have been using the Olay Moisturizer for as long as I can remember but I just started using the Tea Tree products for about 4 weeks now. These products have actually been working great on my skin as it has helped diminish an active pimple within a day and even help stop a pimple from arising to the surface.

If you struggle with acne and have oily skin, I would definitely recommend buying these products and giving them a try. The Body Shop has many other Tea Tree products in their line such as the Tea Tree Skin Clearing Mask, Tea Tree Mattifying Lotion, Tea Tree Night Lotion, Tea Tree Oil Pore Minimizer, and more! You can find all their products on their website here.

Ways to Relax After the Holidays

Now that the holidays are over, you are probably in need of some major relaxing and de-stressing. There are many ways to relax from all the holiday rage but I have found 5 very useful hacks to share with you all 🙂
1. Aroma Home Pug Microwavable Hot Hug

The first thing I suggest is to get an Aroma Home Pug Microwavable Hot Hug. They are infused with lavender oils which is known to help relax the mind and body. The pug plush is conveniently sold on Amazon. How it works is you take the microwavable insert out of the Velcro pouch on its belly and microwave it for 30 seconds (make sure the microwave is clean and free of grease) and then you take it out and test the warmth to make sure it is not too hot. If you still want it warmer, you warm it up in 10 second intervals until the desired warmth is reached. Then it is ready to be cuddled! I got one for Christmas and I am just obsessed with it, partly because it is a pug and who doesn’t like pugs, but also because it keeps me warm and helps calm me down with the lavender scent after a long day of work. It even helps with that time of the month, Ladies, if you get really bad cramps!

2.  Art Naturals Essential Oil Diffused

An Art Naturals oil diffuser is similar idea to the aromatherapy plush but is a machine that emits an oil infused mist into the air and can be used with a variety of different oil scents. Art Naturals sells eight different types of oils that include: Frankincense, Lavender, Eucalyptus, Lemon Grass, Peppermint, Sweet Orange, Tea Tree, and Rosemary. I also got one of these, plus the set of eight oils,  for Christmas and used it that night. I used the lavender oil first because that is my go-to scent with aromatherapy and it helped me relax before bed (especially after all the Christmas chaos). Each scent is supposed to help with different things such as lavender with relaxation, peppermint with headaches, Eucalyptus for cold or flu, and etc (the oils come with a pamphlet that tells you about each oil).

You can get the Art Naturals Essential Oil Diffuser here: Art Naturals Essential Oil Diffuser *

3. Go Out To Eat or Have Food Delivered

If you were the one hosting the Christmas party and making all the delicious food for it, then the last thing you are going to want to do is cook more food after then. Instead, go out to eat at a restaurant or even have some food delivered right to your front door; it could be a cute date with the hubby or even a treat for yourself.

You are bound to have at least one gift card to a restaurant given to you as a gift for Christmas so might as well take advantage of it (you don’t even need to get dressed up). My husband and I decided to go out to dinner at Chili’s (since we got so many gift cards for them) and it really was relaxing to just have someone make food for you.

UberEATS is one way you could have food delivered to your doorsteps and it really easy! Just sign up and browse the restaurants around you available for delivery. There is such a huge variety of restaurants that deliver through this delivery service and it is relatively cheap! You can spend the day after Christmas in your Pajamas, lounging on the couch,  watching Netflix, while stuffing your face with your favorite food. That sounds like a great day to me!

4. Get Outside!

20161231_131042

After the holidays, people might be on a stricter budget after splurging on all those gifts for friends and family so a free way to get some relaxation is just simply go outside and get some fresh air. Especially if you ate too much during Christmas, this is a good way to get off the couch and get some light exercise that can help de-stress your mind. I like to go on walks with my puppies to get some fresh air and they sure love it too! It is kind of a win, win situation too because it helps me de-stress but it also helps wear out my puppies, because they can get hyper at times 🙂

5. Go Explore

Exploring, or going on a short road trip, can be a great way to relax after the holidays. Whether it is just driving around those dirt roads or planning a small trip away from your town, this helps escape the hustle and bustle of the Holidays. My husband and I went on a trip for New Years weekend to get away and take a small road trip up to flagstaff with the pups to see the snow, which is one of our favorite places to go to when we feel like we need a break from all the stress that comes with life. Tip: Bring a camera along to capture all the scenery and memories. (P.S. look out for a post on our little flagstaff trip)

If you get stressed from all the Holiday madness, these tips can help you relax and renew your body for the New Year!

Comment a way that helps you relax from all the stress of the Holidays or even just everyday life. I would love to hear what tips you guys have for relaxing 🙂

Don’t forget to hit that “follow” button so you know when I have a new post!

Hope you all had a fantastic Holiday season! Thanks for listening ❤
